Each VOMIDIS tablet contains ondansetron 4mg.
VOMIDIS is the brand name for ondansetron, which is one of the highly effective and extremely safe anti-emetic drugs. It is largely used during chemotherapies and radiotherapies to treat nausea and vomiting. Ondansetron is a synthetic drug that belongs to the class of serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonists and its activity is observed at both central and peripheral levels.
Nausea and vomiting are common problems during chemo- and radiation therapies and these happen because of different drug combinations, high doses of the drugs, prior health conditions, etc. When the body comes in contact with foreign chemicals or irritants, the neurotransmitter, serotonin triggers nausea in order to expel the chemicals from the body. Ondansetron works by suppressing the activity of serotonin.
5-HT receptors are found in the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) of the central nervous system and at the vagal nerve terminals in the intestine of the peripheral nervous system. Ondansetron specifically blocks these receptors and prevents the vomiting reflux.
