Each SIMGESIC-MRX tablet contains diclofenac potassium 50mg and metaxalone 400mg.
SIMGESIC-MRX is an anti-inflammatory combination of diclofenac potassium and metaxalone. Diclofenac potassium belongs to the class of Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) which is largely used to treat pain and inflammation. Metaxalone is a muscle relaxant which is used to address muscular spasms and strains.
Diclofenac potassium is a potassium derivative of diclofenac, which in turn, is derived from phenylacetic acid. Diclofenac potassium works by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX) or prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase-2(PGES-2), the enzyme that is involved in prostaglandin synthesis. Prostaglandins are one of the key inflammation mediators. Diclofenac brings down inflammation by reducing the prostaglandin levels in the tissues. Diclofenac is exclusively metabolized in the liver.
Metaxalone is generally used a muscle relaxant. The mode of action is not completely studied. However, it is understood that it works through central nervous system depression. Metaxalone is largely metabolized in the liver.
