Each REECA-D tablet contains diacerein 50mg, glucosamine sulfate potassium chloride 750mg and methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) 250mg.
REECA-D is the brand name for the anti-arthritis and cartilage-protecting combination of glucosamine sulfate, MSM and diacerein. This combination treats different types of arthritis and cartilage degeneration problems that are caused due to inflammation. Glucosamine sulfate promotes cartilage regeneration, while MSM works as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent that prevents the cartilage damage triggered due to free radicals. Diacerein is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that acts by inhibiting the activity of interleukin-1, which is one of the major inflammatory mediators.
Glucosamine sulfate acts as the precursor for the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans, which are the key components of joint cartilage. Glucosamine is observed to slow down the progression of joint inflammation by inhibiting the activity of proteolytic enzymes. It is also anti-inflammatory in nature.
Cartilage is prone to free-radical damage, which often leads to its degeneration. Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), which possesses strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, will prevent cartilage degeneration and heals inflammation symptoms such as pain, redness and swelling in the joints. It also boosts the immune system and possesses mild antimicrobial activity.
Diacerein inhibits the activity of interleukin-1 beta, which is strongly associated with inflammation and cartilage degeneration. It also stimulates the cartilage synthesis and is chondroprotective in nature. Its mechanism of action does not involve inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.
