Each PRIMOCET tablet contains levocetirizine HCl 5mg.

PRIMOCET is the brand name for the antihistamine, levocetirizine. Levocetirizine works blocking the activity of prime mediator of several allergic reactions, the histamines. Levocetirizine belongs to the class of third-generation antihistamines with no ability to cross the blood-brain barrier. Levocetirizine is derived from cetirizine, which is a second-generation antihistamine.

Levocetirizine acts as an inverse agonist of H1 receptors and prevents the binding of the histamines to the H1 receptors and thereby prevent the cascading allergic reactions that follow the histamine-H1 receptor binding. This drug does not prevent the synthesis of histamine; instead, it suppresses the activity of the histamine.
