Each PRIMOCET-AX tablet contains levocetirizine 5mg and ambroxol 75mg.
PRIMOCET-AX is the brand name for the anti-allergic and decongestant combination of levocetirizine and ambroxol. This combination treats both acute and chronic respiratory tract infections.
Levocetirizine belongs to the class of third-generation antihistamines and is derived from cetirizine - a second-generation antihistamine. Levocetirizine has no ability to cross the blood-brain barrier and it does not cause drowsiness. Levocetirizine acts as an inverse agonist of H1 receptors. This drug prevents the binding of histamines to the H1 receptors, thereby preventing the cascading allergic reactions that follow the histamine-H1 receptor binding. This drug suppresses the activity of the histamines, but, does not have any effect on the synthesis of histamines.
Ambroxol is a potent decongestant that acts on the hard mucus and eases its expectoration. Ambroxol promotes mucus clearance by decreasing its viscosity and increasing its volume. This drug also promotes productive cough and clears the airway is short span and helps the patients with congestion breathe freely and deeply.
