Each NOVAGLIPTIN-M tablet contains teneligliptin 20mg and metformin hydrochloride IP 500mg.
NOVAGLIPTIN-M is an antidiabetic combination of teneligliptin and metformin hydrochloride. Teneligliptin, which was discovered recently, belongs to the class of DPP-4 inhibitors and works by increasing the insulin levels in the blood. Metformin hydrochloride is also an antidiabetic agent that works by decreasing the hepatic glucose production.
Teneligliptin is an antidiabetic that belongs to the class of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors. Teneligliptin, which is derived from pyrrolidine, works by increasing the levels of incretin (GLP-1 and GIP) that plays a key role in decreasing the glucagon levels, increasing the insulin levels and eventually reduce the blood glucose levels.
Teneligliptin has strong cardioprotective activity. It protects the heart against the cardiovascular disorders by reducing the levels of triglycerides and cholesterol in the blood. It also supports the normal functioning of the heart by boosting the levels of adiponectin that has strong anti-inflammatory, vasoprotective and anti-atherosclerotic properties.
Metformin hydrochloride is an antihyperglycemic agent that is used to treat non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. This drug restores the glycemic control by reducing the hepatic glucose production and glucose absorption, increasing the insulin-mediated glucose intake and improving the insulin sensitivity by increasing the uptake and utilization of peripheral glucose. All these effects are controlled by the activation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) by metformin. AMPK causes GLUT4 deployment to the plasma membrane, which results in insulin-independent glucose uptake.
