Nevimox-SB 500 Tablets

Each tablet of NEVIMOX-SB 500 contains amoxicillin 250mg and sulbactam 250mg

NEVIMOX SB- 500 is an antibiotic combination of the antibiotic amoxicillin and the beta-lactamase inhibitor, sulbactam. This oral medication is effective against the broad spectrum of micro-organisms. This product works by inhibiting the cell wall synthesis and thereby preventing the growth of the bacterial cells. The major bacterial infections that can be addressed using NEVIMOX-SB 500 are gonorrhea, pneumonia, genitourinary tract infections, etc.

Amoxicillin is a beta-lactam antibiotic that belongs to the class of aminopenicillins and it is derived from ampicillin. Amoxicillin binds to the penicillin-binding-protein 1A which is located in the cell envelope of the bacterial cells. The penicillin-sensitive transpeptidase-C terminal domain of the PBPs is acylated by the amoxicillin and the domain becomes inactivated. This leads to the inhibition of cross-linkage between the linear peptidoglycan polymer chains, which in turn, cause the bacterial cell death. Amoxicillin is said to be highly susceptible to beta-lactamase activity and thus it has to be administered in combination with a beta-lactamase inhibitor such as sulbactam.

Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor and its prime function is to protect amoxicillin’s antibiotic activity. Sulbactam also possesses a beta-lactam ring which binds to the beta-lactamase enzyme present within the bacterial cell wall. This binding prevents the binding of the enzyme to the beta-lactam ring of amoxicillin and eventually protects the latter from enzymatic degradation.
