NEVIMOX SB Injection

NEVIMOX SB Injection

Amoxicillin 1000mg and Sulbactam 500mg

NEVIMOX SB is an antibacterial combination of semi-synthetic antibiotic amoxicillin and the beta-lactamase inhibitor, sulbactam. This combination is synergistic and effective against both gram+ve and gram-ve bacteria. It works by inhibiting the cell wall synthesis and eventually preventing the growth of the bacterial cells.

Amoxicillin is a beta-lactam antibiotic that belongs to the class of aminopenicillins and it is derived from ampicillin. Amoxicillin binds to the penicillin-binding-protein 1A which is located in the cell envelope of the bacterial cells. The penicillin-sensitive transpeptidase-C terminal domain of the PBPs is acylated by the amoxicillin and the domain becomes inactivated. This blocks the cross-linkage between the linear peptidoglycan polymer chains, which in turn, leads to increased cellular permeability. This will eventually cause the death of the bacterial cells.

Amoxicillin is more active on Gram+ve bacteria than on Gram-ve bacteria, as the former have higher peptidoglycan content in their cell wall. Amoxicillin is an effective antibiotic with excellent tissue penetration, minimal plasma protein binding, and an anaerobic activity. However, it is highly susceptible to beta-lactamase activity.

Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor and its prime function is to protect amoxicillin’s antibiotic activity. Sulbactam enhances the efficiency of the drug by irreversibly inhibiting the activity of both plasma-mediated and chromosomal beta-lactamase in the bacterial cell wall.
