Merogene-SB Injection

Merogene-SB Injection

MEROGENESB injection contains meropenem 1000mg and sulbactam 500mg.

MEROGENE-SB contains meropenem and sulbactam. Meropenem, which is a beta-lactam antibiotic, acts on bacterial cells by inhibiting the peptidoglycan synthesis, which eventually leads to the bacterial cell lysis. Sulbactamís key function in this combination is to protect the antibiotic activity of meropenem.

Meropenem is an antibiotic derived from thienamycin, a beta-lactamase resistant antibiotic and it belongs to the class of carbapenems. This drug functions by binding to the penicillin-binding proteins, and disrupting the cell wall synthesis in several Gram+ve and Gram-ve bacteria.

Sulbactam exhibits beta-lactamase-inhibitory property and protects meropenemís antibiotic activity. It inhibits the activity of both plasma-mediated and chromosomal beta-lactamase, irreversibly, and thereby enhances the efficiency of the drug. Sulbactam is also said to exhibit mild antibacterial properties in N.gonorrhoeae, N.meningitidis and Acinetobacter baumannii.
