Each MEFVAN SPAS tablet contains mefenamic acid IP 250mg and dicyclomine HCl IP 10mg.
MEFVAN SPAS is an effective anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antispasmodic combination of mefenamic acid and dicyclomine. This combination effectively treats the irritable bowel syndrome, stomach and intestinal cramping, and menstrual cramps by relaxing the smooth muscles and reducing the prostaglandin levels. Prostaglandins are one of the key mediators of inflammation, which are associated with pain during inflammation. MEFVAN SPAS is helpful in bringing their levels down and alleviating the pain.
Mefenamic acid is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug and is an anthranilic acid derivative. It works by inhibiting the activity of cyclooxygenase enzyme (both COX-1 and COX-2), which synthesizes prostaglandins from arachidonic acid. This drug effectively suppresses the symptoms of different types of arthritis like rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.
Dicyclomine belongs to the class of anticholinergics and it works by reducing the effects of acetylcholine and also directly relaxing the smooth muscles. It also exhibits the antisecretory activity and suppresses the gastric acid secretion, tracheal secretion and bronchial secretions.
