KETOSH Shampoo

Treatment for fungal infection of skin

75mL of KETOSH shampoo contains ketoconazole 2% and zinc pyrithione 1%.

KETOSH is the brand name for the anti-fungal hair formula that exclusively treats dandruff and other scalp-related fungal infections.

Ketoconazole, one of the key ingredients of this formulation, belongs to the class of imidazoles. Ketoconazole works by blocking the synthesis of ergosterol, which is the key component of the fungal cell wall. It interferes with the activity of the enzyme, cytochrome P450 14a-demethylase (CYP51A1) that converts lanosterol to ergosterol during the cell wall synthesis. With ergosterolís synthesis being arrested, the cell wall becomes extremely permeable and leaky, which will eventually lead to the death of the fungal cells.

Zinc pyrithione, which is the key ingredient of several anti-dandruff shampoos, belongs to the class of antiseborrheics. This compound possesses strong bacteriostatic and fungistatic properties, with which, it effectively treats dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis. Fungistatic activity of pyrithione involves increased copper uptake, which damages the Fe-S(iron-sulfur) clusters of proteins. This reduced activity of Fe-S proteins severely hampers the metabolism and growth in fungal cells, and eventually leads to their death.
