Doxporin 200

Cefpodoxime 200mg Tablet

Each DOXPORIN-200 tablet contains cefpodoxime 200mg.

DOXPORIN-200 is the brand name for the antibiotic cefpodoxime. Cefpodoxime is a beta-lactam antibiotic that belongs to the class of third-generation cephalosporins. This drug is active against several Gram +ve and Gram-ve bacteria. This drug is resistant to the activity of cephalosporinases, penicillinases and a few beta-lactamases.

Cefpodoxime works by inhibiting the cell wall synthesis in bacteria. This drug binds to the Penicillin Binding Protein 3 and inhibits the transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis in bacteria. This transpeptidation step is crucial for the cross-linking in the bacterial cell wall and without this cross-linking the bacterial cells cannot hold their content within them. This leakage will eventually lead to the death of the bacterial cells.
