Dobex S 375 Injection

DOBEX S 375 consists of ceftriaxone 250mg and sulbactam 125mg.

DOBEX S 375 is the brand name for the antibiotic combination of ceftriaxone and sulbactam. Ceftriaxone is a beta-lactam antibiotic that belongs to the class of third-generation cephalosporins and sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor, whose function is to protect the antibiotic activity of ceftriaxone. However, ceftriaxone is stable against the action of penicillinases, cephalosporinases and a broad spectrum of beta-lactamases.

Ceftriaxone binds to the penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) that are present in the cell wall and inhibit the transpeptidation step of the peptidoglycan synthesis in bacteria. Transpeptidation step is crucial for cross-linking in the bacterial cell wall and when this step is inhibited, it leads to leakage of the cellular contents and death of the bacterial cells. This drug exhibits the broad spectrum activity against gram +ve and gram –ve bacteria.

Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that prevents the degradation of ceftriaxone by beta-lactamases present in the bacterial cell wall. Sulbactam’s structure contains a beta-lactam core, which binds to the beta-lactamase enzyme in the bacteria. This interaction prevents the binding of the enzyme to the beta-lactam ring of ceftriaxone; this allows the antibiotic ceftriaxone inhibit the bacterial growth.
