DOBEX 500 is the brand name for the beta-lactam antibiotic-ceftriaxone. Ceftriaxone is the third generation cephalosporin drug that works by interfering with the cell wall synthesis in bacteria. It is effective against several gram +ve bacteria, due to its high penetrability and longer half-life. This drug is resistant to beta-lactamase, penicillinases and cephalosporinases activity.
Ceftriaxone, which has a beta-lactam ring, binds to the penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) present in the bacterial cell wall. This binding is followed by a series of reactions, and ultimately the transpeptidation step is blocked. This leads to the leakage of the cell contents and ultimately causes to the death of the bacterial cells.
This medicine has to be administered under medical supervision only.
DOBEX 500 is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity towards ceftriaxone, hemolytic anemia, hepatic disorders, Clostridium difficile infections and kidney diseases.
Adverse effects of this medicine include, nausea, vomiting, GI disturbances, pain and swelling in the tongue, headache, and vaginal itching and discharge.
There are no sufficient and well-controlled studies when it comes to ceftriaxone administration in pregnant women and nursing mothers. Therefore, if you are pregnant or nursing, discuss with your doctor about your condition before taking this medicine.
DOBEX 500 injection is available in Vial with WFI with outer carton pack.
