Clobetasol is a very potent corticosteroid that works by suppressing the inflammation. Clobetasol is largely used to alleviate the symptoms rather than curing the condition. Redness, swelling and itching are the major symptoms of inflammation and all these symptoms can be relieved with the topical application of clobetasol.
Clobetasol, like other corticosteroids, interferes with the arachidonic acid metabolism and interleukin-1 synthesis and produce anti-inflammatory, immunosuppressive and anti-mitogenic effects. In general, clobetasol reduces the activity of the chemicals that lead to inflammation.
