Vitamin D Supplement-CHOFIX SACHET

Each mL of CHOFIX drops contains cholecalciferol 400 IU

Cholecalciferol or vitamin D3 belongs to the group of D-vitamins. Out of all the types, vitamin D3 is the only type that has multiple biological functions. As a health supplement, cholecalciferol promotes bone and muscle health. It is also used for the treatment of hypophosphatemia and hypoparathyroidism that leads to low serum calcium. Deficiency of vitamin D3 leads to weak bones, bone pain, fractures, weak muscles, stunted growth and dental problems.

Calcitriol (1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol) is the active form of vitamin D3, which is important for the maintenance of potassium and calcium levels in the blood and bone mineralization. Calcitriol modulates the gene expression by binding to vitamin D receptors. Vitamin D3 is important for the absorption of phosphorus and calcium in the intestine and renal resorption of calcium.

Cholecalciferol is an inactive molecule, and it is activated by two hydroxylation reactions. The first hydroxylation reaction happens in the liver in order to synthesize 25-hydroxycholecalciferol from cholecalciferol. The second hydroxylation happens in the kidney, wherein the 25-hydroxycholecalciferol is converted to 1, 25-hydroxycholecalciferol (calcitriol). All the metabolites that are involved in these reactions bind to the vitamin D-binding protein, present in the blood and are transported to the target tissues.
