Each CEFDIS-LB tablet contains cefixime200mg and lactic acid bacillus
CEFDIS-LB is an antibiotic combination of cefixime and lactic acid bacillus. Cefixime is an anti-bacterial agent that belongs to the class of third-generation cephalosporins. Cefixime is active against both gram +ve and gram –ve bacteria. It is stable against the activity of beta-lactamase enzyme and therefore is highly effective against the bacterial strains that are resistant to beta-lactams and cephalosporins.
Cefixime’s mechanism of action involves inhibition of cell wall synthesis in the bacterial cells. Cefixime binds to the specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) and blocks the transpeptidation reaction, which is the final step of cell wall synthesis. Transpeptidation is highly essential for cross-linking in the cell wall structure. Without the cross-linking, bacterial cell wall becomes weak and loses its ability to hold the cellular content, which eventually leads to the death of the bacterial cells.
Role of lactic acid bacillus in this formulation is to kill the harmful bacteria and improving the functioning of the immune system.
