Each BINADIS-250 tablet contains terbinafine 250mg.
Terbinafine is a synthetic antifungal agentthat belongs to the family of allylamines. Terbinafine is used both orally and topically against a wide range of fungal infections. It is largely used to treat ringworm, fungal nail infections and pityriasis versicolor.
Mechanism of action:Terbinafine’s mechanism of action involves the inhibition of the enzyme, squalene epoxidase’s activity. This enzyme is essential for the first oxygenation step of sterol (ergosterol) synthesis. Squalene is converted to lanosterol in the first step which is then converted to ergosterol; but, terbinafine prevents the synthesis of lanosterol. Inhibiting the activity of squalene epoxidase would lead to deposition of high concentration of squalene within the cell. High concentration of squalene interferes with the membrane function and cell wall formation. The end result of this inhibition is that the fungal cells become ergosterol deficient, and their cell wall is broken down, which eventually leads to their death and prevents further infections.
