Each VOMIDIS-O tablet contains ondansetron 4mg and omeprazole 20mg.
VOMIDIS-O is an anti-emetic and anti-ulcerant combination of ondansetron and omeprazole. This combination effectively addresses different types of ulcers, acid reflux disorders and nausea and vomiting associated with radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
Ondansetron is a synthetic drug that belongs to the class of serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonists. Nausea and vomiting is a natural reflux that is observed in patients who are undergoing chemo and radiotherapies because of drug combinations and high drug doses. The neurotransmitter, serotonin plays a key role in triggering nausea and vomiting and ondansetron works by suppressing the activity of serotonin. 5-HT receptors - the receptors that are associated with nausea and vomiting, are found in the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) of the central nervous system and at the vagal nerve terminals in the intestine of the peripheral nervous system. Ondansetron specifically blocks these receptors and prevents the vomiting reflux.
Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that blocks the influx of H+ ions into the stomach and prevents the gastric acid secretion. This drug blocks the activity of H+/ K+ ATPase system present on the parietal cells of the inner lining of the stomach and suppresses the levels of the stomach acid.
