Each 5mL of PRIMOCET syrup contains levocetirizine HCl 2.5mg.
PRIMOCET is the brand name for the antihistamine, levocetirizine. Levocetirizine works by blocking the activity of the histamine, which is the prime mediator of allergic reactions. Levocetirizine belongs to the class of third-generation antihistamines with no ability to cross the blood-brain barrier.
Levocetirizine selectively blocks the H1 receptors by competing with the histamine molecules and exhibiting inverse agonism. This suppresses the activity of the histamine, i.e., the release of several other allergic molecules and the allergic reactions that are triggered by the histamine-H1 receptor binding are suppressed.
