PRIMOCET-M Tablet

Composition:

Each PRIMOCET-M tablet contains levocetirizine 5mg and montelukast 10mg.

Description:

PRIMOCET-M is a potent anti-allergic combination of levocetirizine, a third-generation antihistamine and montelukast, a leukotriene receptor antagonist. PRIMOCET-M works by suppressing the activity of the inflammatory mediators and other allergic reactions.

Levocetirizine addresses severe allergic reactions such as, itching and swelling that are associated with chronic urticaria. It is an active enantiomer of a second-generation antihistamine, cetirizine. Levocetirizine does not cross the blood-brain barrier like other antihistamines. This drug blocks the binding of histamine to the H1 receptor by acting as an inverse agonist of the H1 receptor. However, it does not suppress the production of histamine molecules. Levocetirizine prevents the symptoms of allergic reactions such as running nose, sneezing and watery eyes that follow the histamine-H1 receptor binding.

Montelukast relieves the symptoms of hay fever and is helpful in the treatment of asthma by relieving the bronchoconstriction. This drug is an antagonist and it works by blocking the activity of leukotriene D4 on the cysteinyl leukotriene receptor CysLT1 that are present in the lungs and bronchial tubes, by binding to it.
