Levocetirizine is a third generation sedative antihistamine.It prevents the release of other allergy chemical an dincrease blood supply to the area,provides relief from the typical symptoms of hay fever.
Montelukast is a selective and orally active leukotriene receptor antagonist that inhibits the cysteinyl leukotriene CysLT1 receptor. Cysteinyl leukotrienes and leukotriene receptor occupation have been correlated with the pathophysiology of asthma ( such as, airway edema, smooth muscle contraction and altered cellular activity associated with the inflammatory process, which contribute to the signs and symptoms of asthma).
The combination is indicated for relief of symptoms of allergic rhinitis [seasonal or perennial], as prophylaxis in seasonal allergic rhinitis and treatment of comorbid asthma and allergic rhinitis in patients 15 years of age and over.

The combination is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to montelukast sodium, levocetirizine or cetirizine or to any other component of this product. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment.
Patients with rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, the Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take this medication.
In rare cases, patients on therapy with Montelukast may present with systemic eosinophilia, sometimes presenting with clinical features of vasculitis consistent with Churg-Strauss syndrome, a condition, which is often treated with systemic corticosteroid therapy.Patients should avoid engaging in hazardous occupation requiring complete mental alertness such as driving or operating machinery when taking levocetirizine. Precaution is recommended with intake of alcohol and in those who are on CNS depressants .
Dyspepsia, abdominal pain, rash, dizziness, headache, fever, trauma, cough, nasal congestion, somnolence, fatigue, nasopharyngitis, dry mouth.
There are no adequate and well controlled studies of either montelukast or levocetirizine in pregnant women. Hence this combination should not be used during pregnancy. Since levocetirizine is excreted in breast-milk the combination is not recommended during lactation.
PRIMOCET-M is available as syrup. Every 5 ml Levocetirizine HCL 2.5 mg,Montelukast 4 mg. The total content in each bottle is 30 ml.
