Povidone Iodine An antimicrobial agent, povidone-iodine (Betadine) is a complex of iodine. Povidone-iodine is available as a skin cleanser with a detergent base (0.5% available iodine).Povidone iodine is a powerful antiseptic and disinfectant. In contact with skin membranes, the povidone iodine complex gradually releases the active iodineinto the skin to kill bacteria, fungi and viruses that cause infections and wounds without leaving the scars behind.

Metronidazole Metronidazole is an antiprotozoal, antibacterial and anthelminthic nitroimidazole agent.Metronidazole is an antiprotozoal drug but it is also active against bacteriaMetronidazole is reduced to disrupt energy metabolism of anaerobes by hindering the replication, transcription and repair process of DNA results in cell death. Presence of oxygen prevents reduction of metronidazole and so reduces its cytotoxicity.

Dexpanthenol - Panthenol is a form of vitamin B5, used as a moisturizer and lubricating compound.Panthenol penetrates into lower skin layers and gets absorbed into skin cells where it is processed into Pantothenic Acid to add essential moisture to the skin. It is used to treat dry, rough, scaly, itchy skin and minor skin irritations.As an ingredient in skin product, Panthenol improves hydration, reduces itching and improves healing of epidermal wounds.It is also used for sunburn treatment.

How it works

Poviral Ointment improves the wounds and infections by performing the following functions:

  • Liberating iodine in contact with the skin.
  • Inhibiting energy production and killing the bacteria and parasites.
  • Decreasing the acetylcholine synthesis.

  • Avoid contact with eyes
  • Replace cap tightly after use.
  • For external use only.
  • Caution should be exercised while using in pregnant and breastfeeding women
  • Consult your doctor if skin rash and itching occurs

Direction to use

Apply thin film twice daily to the affected area or as directed by the physician.


Store at a temperature not exceeding 25C. Do not allow to freeze.
