Each tablet of PIROVON DT contains piroxicam IP 20mg.
Piroxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that works by blocking the cyclooxygenase pathway. Cyclooxygenase is the enzyme that synthesizes key inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes, from arachidonic acid. These inflammatory mediators lead to different inflammatory symptoms such as pain, swelling, redness and fever.
Piroxicam exhibits anti-pyretic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. Apart from preventing the prostaglandin synthesis, piroxicam blocks the activation of neutrophils in order to suppress the inflammatory reactions. Thus, this drug is effective in treating inflammation-related joint issues such as gout, osteoarthritis and muscle disorders.
