PIROVON-DT contains Piroxicam. Piroxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)used to relieve the symptoms of painful, inflammatory conditions like arthritis.
Piroxicam, like other NSAIDs, block the Cox enzymes and reduce prostaglandins throughout the body. As a consequence, ongoing inflammation, pain, and fever are reduced. Since the prostaglandins that protect the stomach and support the platelets and blood clotting also are reduced.Piroxicam has analgesic activity as well as anti-pyretic and anti-inflammatory activities.
As an analgesic Piroxicam is more potent than aspirin,fenoprofen,ibuprofen,naproxen in inhibiting phenylquinone-induced writhing.
Piroxicam is used primarily for the treatment of rheumatoid diseases. Piroxicam reduces pain, joint swelling and morning stiffness, and improves the functionality of the joints during chronic polyarthritis. Pain is relieved in arthroses and joint mobility is improved. Piroxicamis effective and well-tolerated in the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea.Piroxicam has been compared to other anti-inflammatory agents (e.g. diclofenac, indomethacin, naproxen) in numerous controlled studies and proved to be equal and sometimes even more efficacious.
It can also be used for other rheumatoid diseases such as ankylosing spondylitis, (Bechterew's disease), acute gout, low back pain and soft tissue rheumatism (e.g. periarthropathy of the shoulder). Piroxicam reduces both systemic and synovial fluid rheumatoid factor production in patients with seropositive rheumatoid arthritis.
The adult oral dose of PIROVON-DT is one tablet taken per day as single dose,may be increase to 30-40mg/day. The medicine is best taken on the same time each day with a full glass of water or to take it with food if it upsets stomach.
PIROVON-DT should not be administered in the following cases:
Serious side effects of PIROVON-DT include hepatotoxicity,hypoglycemia,hypersensitivity reactions,hypotension,edema .Less serious side effects are loss of appetite, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, indigestion, elevated liver enzymes, flatulence, gross bleeding/perforation, heartburn, nausea, ulcers and vomiting.
Piroxicam may harm an unborn baby, especially shouldn’t take piroxicam during your last three months of pregnancy. The medicine is found in breast milk and could hurt a nursing baby. Don’t take Piroxicam while breastfeeding a baby.
Store in a cool, dry and dark place. Keep away from the reach of children.
