Nevigut Injection

Composition:

Levosulpiride 12.5mg

Description:

Levosulpiride is an antipsychotic drug that belongs to the class of substituted benzamides. This drug interferes with the dopamine activity in the brain. It is also reported that this drug could improve the mood. Apart from its antipsychotic activity, it is also used for its gastrointestinal motility properties i.e., it is used as a digestive aid.

Levosulpiride administration improves the food movement through the GI tract and addresses various disorders related to stomach and intestines. This drug works by enhancing the emptying of the stomach and gut and increasing the contractions in the gut.

Levosulpiride also has strong antipsychotic properties. Dopamine is a neurochemical that primarily controls emotions, learning, movement, pleasures and reward centers in the brain. It functions by activating different receptors such as D1, D2, D3, D4 and D5 and these receptors are classified into two categories namely, D1-like receptor family and D2-like receptor family, with respect to their biochemical and functional properties. In the case neurological disorders like psychosis and schizophrenia, dopamine is overproduced. Blocking the dopamine receptors is one way to control the dopamine activity and treat the condition. Levosulpiride specifically blocks D2 receptors of dopamine both at central and peripheral levels.
