ETORIB-MR 4 is an analgesic and muscle relaxant combination, which includes the anti-inflammatory properties of etoricoxib and thiocolchicoside. This combination is largely used for traumatologic, rheumatologic and orthopedic pain.

Etoricoxib:

Etoricoxib possess potent anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. This drug is a selective inhibitor of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzyme which synthesizes prostaglandin from arachidonic acid. Etoricoxibís selectivity for COX-2 is 106-fold higher than that of COX-1 and this high specificity makes it a powerful analgesic agent.

Thiocolchicoside:

Thiocolchicoside is basically a muscle relaxant that possesses anti-inflammatory and pain-alleviating properties too. This semi-synthetic drug is derived from colchicine, a secondary metabolite extracted from Gloriosa superba. This drug possesses glycomimetic and GABA mimetic activities, i.e., it has high affinities for GABA receptors and inhibitory glycine receptors. In the case of muscular contractures, thiocolchicoside works by activating the GABA inhibitory and glycine inhibitory pathways; and, thereby acts as a potent muscle relaxant.
