DOBEX 1000 is the brand name for the beta-lactam antibacterial agent, ceftriaxone. Ceftriaxone belongs to the class of third generation cephalosporins. This drug acts by interfering with the bacterial cell wall synthesis. It is effective against several gram +ve bacteria and gram –ve bacteria, due to its high penetrability and longer half-life. Ceftriaxone is stable against the activity of penicillinases, beta-lactamase and cephalosporinases.
The beta-lactam ring of ceftriaxone binds to the penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) present in the bacterial cell wall. This binding is followed by a series of reactions, and ultimately the transpeptidation step, which is the final step of peptidoglycan synthesis, is blocked. This binding hampers the synthesis and assembly of the cell wall in bacteria, which ultimately leads to the death of the bacterial cells.
This medicine has to be administered under medical supervision only.
DOBEX 1000 is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity towards ceftriaxone, hemolytic anemia, hepatic disorders, Clostridium difficile infections and kidney diseases.
