CYTOFATE-O Oral Suspension

Composition:

Each 10mL of CYTOFATE-O oral suspension contains sucralfate 1000mg and oxetacaine BP 20mg.

Description:

CYTOFATE-O is the brand name for the anti-ulcerant combination of sucralfate and oxetacaine. This combination effectively treats different types of ulcers and Helicobacter pylori infections.

Sucralfate:

Sucralfate is a potent anti-ulcer agent. It works by reacting with HCl acid in the stomach to form a viscous, cross-linking, paste-like material that acts as an acid buffer for approximately 8 hours. Sucralfate is negatively charged and binds to the positively charged proteins that are present at the base of the ulcers. This binding prevents the ulcers from being further damaged and thereby promotes their healing at a faster rate. Sucralfate protects the stomach lining against the damage caused by pepsin, gastric acid and bile acids. This drug also enhances the prostaglandin production; prostaglandins protect the stomach lining.

Oxetacaine:

Oxetacaine acts a mild anesthetic, which relieves the pain that is caused due to different types of ulcers and esophagitis. It also inhibits the gastrin release and decreases the gastric acid secretion. Unlike other anesthetics, oxetacaine does not lose its activity even in strong acidic conditions. It soothes pain, bloating, discomfort and burning sensations that are caused due to ulcers.
