DESCRIPTION

CLOBADIS MN is the brand name for the topical antibiotic combination of clobetasol propionate, miconazole nitrate and neomycin. Clobetasol is a corticosteroid that exhibits strong anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties. Miconazole is an antifungal agent that works by preventing the synthesis of vital components in fungi. Neomycin is an antibiotic that prevents several bacteria-related skin infections. This formulation is both antibacterial and antifungal and hence, it is effective against various skin infections.

Clobetasol propionate, which exhibits potent anti-inflammatory properties, relieves symptoms pertaining to the inflammation such as redness, swelling, burning or itching. This drug works by inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins and interleukins which are the key inflammatory mediators.

Miconazole is an antifungal agent that works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, which is the key component of the fungal cell wall. This drug interacts with 14-a demethylase that is involved in the conversion of lanosterol to ergosterol. This inhibition impairs the synthesis and assembly of the fungal cell wall, which eventually leads to the death of the fungi.

Neomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that works by binding to the 30S subunit of the 70S ribosome in the bacteria. This binding leads to misreading of the mRNA and thereby non-functional or toxic proteins are synthesized, which eventually kill the bacterial cells.
