Chofix Injection

Chofix Injection

Composition:

Cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) – 600000 IU

Description:

Cholecalciferol is a biomolecule derived from cholesterol and it is the naturally occurring form of vitamin D. Regulation of calcium and phosphorous levels in the blood is the key function of vitamin D3. CHOFIX administration is helpful in the treatment of vitamin D deficiency and other health conditions caused due to the deficiency of vitamin D. Common causes for vitamin D deficiency include kidney or liver disorders, inadequate sunlight exposure and genetic defects in the vitamin D receptors.

Mechanism of Action:

Cholecalciferol is an inactive molecule, and it is activated by two hydroxylation reactions. The first hydroxylation reaction happens in the liver in order to synthesize 25-hydroxycholecalciferol from cholecalciferol. The second hydroxylation happens in the kidney, wherein the 25-hydroxycholecalciferol is converted to 1, 25-hydroxycholecalciferol, which is also known as the calcitriol. Vitamin D receptor regulates the activity of calcitriol in the body.

Calcitriol increases the serum concentration of calcium by increasing the absorption of calcium and potassium in the gastrointestinal tract, increasing distal renal tubular reabsorption and improving the osteoclastic reabsorption rate.
