CEFDIS Dry Syrup

Composition:

Each 5 mL of CEFDIS DS contains cefixime 50mg.

Description:

CEFDIS DS is the brand name for beta-lactam antibiotic cefixime. Cefixime belongs to the class third generation cephalosporins that work by disrupting the bacterial cell wall. It is a semi-synthetic beta-lactam antibiotic with a broad spectrum activity against several Gram+ve and Gram-ve bacteria. Cefixime is also resistant to penicillinases and cephalosporinases activity which makes it one of the highly effective antibiotics.

Mechanism of Action:

Cefixime works by interfering with the third and final step of cell wall synthesis in bacteria. The Penicillin Binding Proteins (PBPs) present in the bacterial cell wall play a crucial role in the synthesis and assembly of the cell wall in bacteria. Cefixime binds to these PBPs and eventually prevents the transpeptidation step of the peptidoglycan synthesis. This leads to the death of the bacteria that cause infection and prevents their growth.
