CEFDIS-AZ Tablet

Each tablet contains:

  • Cefixime - 200 mg
  • Azithromycin - 250 mg

DESCRIPTION

Cefixime is a semi-synthetic, broad spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic of third generation for oral administration. It is a bactericidal antibiotic, kills bacteria by interfering in the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall. Cefixime is highly stable in the presence of beta-lactamase enzymes. Cefixime has marked in-vitro bactericidal activity against a wide variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms including beta lactamase producers.

Clinical efficacy of Cefixime has been demonstrated in infections caused by commonly occurring pathogens including Gram-positive organism Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, Gram-negative organism Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella spp., Haemophilus influenzae (beta-lactamase positive and negative), Moraxella catarrhalis (beta-lactamase positive and negative), Salmonella typhi and Enterobacter species.

Azithromycin is an antibiotic useful for the treatment of a number of bacterial infections. This includes middle ear infections, strep throat, pneumonia, traveler's diarrhea, and certain other intestinal infections. It may also be used for a number of sexually transmitted infections including chlamydia and gonorrhea infections. Along with other medications, it may also be used for malaria. It can be taken by mouth or intravenously with doses once per day.

  • Typhoid fever
  • Anti-inflammatory in COPD patients

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Known hypersensitivity to cefixime opr other cephalosporins.Contraindicated in patients with a history of liver disease,kidney disease and also muscle disease.

PRECAUTIONS

Because azithromycin is principally eliminated via liver.caution should be exercised when it is administered to patients with impaired hepatic function.

ADVERSE EFFECTS

  • Diarrhea that is watery or bloody
  • Chest pain, uneven heartbeats
  • Nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of apetite,dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice
  • Severe skin reaction: fever, sore throat, swelling in face or tongue, burning in eyes and skin

PREGNANCY & LACTATON

Cefixime :Single dose of cefixime is considered safe in pregnancy

Azithromycin:Limited data in pregnancy; use only if potential benefit outweighs risk.
