Each AZODIS-500 tablet contains azithromycin 500mg.
Azithromycin is an effective antibiotic drug that works by inhibiting the protein synthesis in bacteria. Azithromycin is of semi-synthetic origin, belonging to the subclass of macrolides of azalides. Azithromycin has a structure similar to that of erythromycin.
Protein synthesis is a crucial biological function in bacteria, through which several components that are necessary for the survival of the bacteria are synthesized. Azithromycin binds to the 50S subunit of the 70S ribosome and eventually inhibits the translation of mRNA. Inhibition of protein synthesis eventually leads to the death of the bacterial cells.
As directed by the doctor or physician
Azithromycin use is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to azithromycin, erythromycin and other macrolides antibiotics.
Probable adverse effects of azithromycin include abdominal pain, headache and rashes.
There are no sufficient and well-controlled studies when it comes to azithromycin administration in pregnant women and nursing mothers. Therefore, if you are pregnant or nursing, discuss with your doctor about your condition before taking this medicine.
