Cetirizine is an antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms. Cetirizine is a metabolite of hydroxyzine, a first generation piperazine antihistamine. It produces selective inhibition of peripheral histamine (H1) receptors. Cetirizine has minimal anticholinergic or antiserotonergic activity and has limited penetration into the brain. Cetrizine is the only antihistamine known o posses activity against both the histamine medicated early phase of allergic response and late phase response.
Allergy symptoms such as watery eyes (ocular allergy), runny nose, itching eyes/nose, sneezing, hives, allergic dermatitis (itching), sneezing and allergic rhinitis.

Cetirizine is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any components of the products or hydroxyzine. Cetrizine is contraindicated in individuals having increased Pressure in Eyes, Liver Problems, Kidney Disease, and cannot Empty Bladder.
Caution should be exercised while prescribing ALEROUT tablet to patients having difficulty urinating (such as due to an enlarged prostate), kidney disease, liver disease..
Caution should be exercised while prescribing ALEROUT tablet to patients having hives that are an unusual color, hives that look bruised or blistered, hives that do not itch.
The most common side effect of ALEROUT tablet is rashes,dizziness,urinating difficulty,trouble in breathing,weakness,headache,dry mouth,fatigue.
It should be used with caution during pregnancy and only if the benefits to the mother outweigh any risks to the fetus. In lactating mothers cetirizine passes into breast milk. So, it should be used with caution in nursing mothers and only if the expected benefit to the mother is greater than the possible risk to the nursing infant. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Cetirizine is only recommended for use during pregnancy when benefit need outweigh risk.
